Its Your Wedding, Dont Get Ripped Off

To you, the wedding of your dreams is a special day that you share with your significant other. To the wedding industry, your special day is like their personal ATM that they can get as much money out of as possible.

It has become so easy to be ripped off in today's society that we are completely blind when it happens. I first discovered this early on in my professional wedding planning career when I was scouting locations for a couples wedding reception.

Over the length of one day I visited five different locations to take notes and photographs to later present to my clients. What shocked and surprised me was that four of the five locations later contacted me that day asking me if I was interested because they had another couple wishing to book for that exact same day.

Could it be?

Was it possible I was being fallowed by a couple with the exact wedding date as my clients? It was not very likely. You see this is a sales tactic commonly used to pressure a couple into closing a sale. A wedding is a day for you but it is a business to many. You must always keep your eyes and ears open to possible scams and hoaxes when planning your wedding.

Your best friend when planning your wedding is your negotiation skills. If you want to cut down on costs by providing your own alcohol but the catering company wants to charge you a corking fee, talk it out! It is normally a word tossed out there to further place cash into their pockets when the whole point of it was to save you money.

Many wedding photographers will own the negatives of your wedding day photos. This means that if you wish to have any photo reprinted you will have to pay additional to the photographer to develop your own photos. You're already paying top dollar for a photographer so why not negotiate owning the negatives as part of the deal?

I could go on and on here but let me leave it at this...

You have to always go with your initial feelings on if you may be getting ripped off or not. If you are, simply negotiate until you are satisfied with the outcome. If you can not come to an agreement then simply move on to another who will appreciate your business.

I have been a profession wedding planner for years. I had to leave the career do to the fact I could not overcharge clients anymore. Lucky for you I am now spilling the beans on the wedding industry so you can greatly benefit when it comes to planning the wedding of your dreams!
